Mission Statement
The mission of the Historical Society shall be to promote an interest in the early settlement of the Colorado River area, to record the oral traditions, to collect and preserve all available journals, maps, pictures, artifacts and other memorabilia or copies thereof, and to provide and maintain a suitable location in which they may be displayed for public benefit.
PROGRAMS
Except where noted, all programs are presented at the Colorado River Historical Museum on Arizona time. The museum is located on the Arizona side of the river on Highway 68 just north of the Laughlin Bridge. For addition information call 928 754-3399.
THE STORY OF THE UNION, PACIFIC AND THE SANTA FE HARVEY GIRLS: The story tells how Fred Harvey changed railroad stops from junk food to fine dining. View the Museum's display and watch the Harvey Girl movie starring Judy Garland.
GOLD MINING: What rock formations to look for when prospecting and how gold is extracted by the cyanide process. A video on how to pan for gold will follow the lecture.

SPECIAL MONTHLY PROGRAM: Brenda Warneka, co-author of an Arizona Centennial project concerning the history Arizona women of the press will give a presentation on that subject.
THE LIFE AND TIMES OF WESTERN AUTHOR LOUIS L'AMOUR: A bigger than life man that captured millions of fans with his stories of the western range.
THE STORY OF OLIVE OATMAN: Hear in her own words, how a thirteen-year-old girl survived 5 years living among the Indians.
STEAMBOATS ON THE COLORADO: An overview of the steamboat era followed by a video on the subject.
TAKE A WALKING TOUR THROUGH HISTORIC OLD BULLHEAD CITY: A museum docent will walk you through Old Bullhead City and present a history of that early part of the town. Meet at the museum.
LIFE OF A SOLDIER: From letters written by the commanding officers at Fort Mojave, discover the hardships of early military service in Arizona.
THE KATHERINE MINE: A slide presentation on the history of the mine.
OATMAN: Learn the history of the old mining town that is now a major tourist attraction. A Museum docent will walk you through the Museum's Oatman exhibit and show a popular video about the town.
MARTHA SUMMERHAYES: Relive the life of a young bride as she follows her soldier husband up the Colorado River on a steamboat and across Arizona by wagon into Apache country.
HISTORY IN THE AREA: A round table discussion of car trips to historical sites in the area.
